The main goal for an athlete is to reduce fat mass and increase lean mass. Following a low GI diet will make it easier to achieve. Reducing the repeated glycemic spikes, characteristic of high GI foods, drastically reduces the so-called “silent inflammation” that causes discomfort, swelling and fatigue. Inflamed muscle fibers, which are subjected to constant oxidative stress, can be more easily damaged by preventing the muscle from working properly.
